RESEARCH SUGGESTS DEEP BREATHING CAN FIGHT ANXIETY

If you’re feeling blue, try adding some deep breathing to your cool down. You already know your mood is usually more sunny after you exercise, but new research from Rutgers University shows doing some focused meditation along with aerobic activity can help fight symptoms of depression and anxiety among adults with and without depression disorders.

Breathe. Specifically, breathe deeply, from your diaphragm, for a half-hour before stepping into the spotlight.
This easy exercise produced positive physiological results for a group of 46 musicians, impacting their heart rate in welcome ways. Furthermore, it left the most anxious among them reported feeling noticeably less tense.

Biofeedback? Not necessary, according to the University of Sydney research team led by psychologists Andrew Kemp and Ruth Wells. Deep breathing alone did the trick.
Tip: Boost your mood no matter the weather with a combo of exercise and deep breathing.

CLEANSING TURMERIC & GINGER TEA (RECIPE)

When it comes to charismatic healing gurus look no further than turmeric.  It’s not just a sunny bright spice to curry up dishes, it’s also commonly used in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. Turmeric originates from the root of the Curcuma longa plant, which is a member of the ginger family and it’s one of nature’s most powerful healers and a true guru.

I know you will relate to this cleansing tea with its alkalizing and detoxifying properties which provide powerful anti-inflammatory action within your body. Turmeric is a superhero ingredient to help heal and prevent dry skin, slow aging, diminish wrinkles and improve skin’s elasticity.

Indian women use turmeric as a facial cleanser and exfoliant. If you are using fresh turmeric, handle with care as it stains easily. If you do happen to turn your favorite garment yellow try squeezing on lemon juice or eucalyptus to remove the stain.
So here’s to my number one health guru turmeric. Make it yours too!

Ingredients
  • 250 ml (9 fl oz/1 cup) almond or rice milk
  • 2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 6 drops stevia liquid

Method
  1. Add the almond milk to small saucepan and heat gently until it reaches room temperature.
  2. Add the turmeric and ginger to a mug.
  3. Pour a small amount of warm milk into the mug and stir to create a liquid paste, ensuring there are no lumps.
  4. Add the remaining milk and sweeten with stevia.
  5. Enjoy.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of coconut milk. I highly recommend this coconut milk - it's the only one without preservatives and is just pure coconut in BPA free cans. (You can also use almond milk)

Turmeric Golden Milk Tea FAQs
My recipe has gained popularity over time and I’ve received many questions about it. I created this list of commonly asked questions to address the most frequently asked ones:

I am Pregnant/Nursing or I have a certain health condition. Can I drink this tea? I recommend speaking with your doctor or your Naturopath before consuming any natural remedy. Some sources say consuming culinary amounts is fine and other sources contraindicate that with certain conditions and with certain medications, so be sure to consult with your doctor first.

Can I use other milks (almond, rice, cows milk) or even water instead of coconut milk?Yes you can!  You can make it with any of these. It won’t be as creamy, but you can even make this recipe with plain water or bone broth instead of any milk at all. If you don’t use milk or broth, consider adding a tiny amount of some kind of fat (like butter or coconut oil) as it increases absorption and will be best for supporting the anti-inflammatory properties of this tea.

When should I drink this? You may drink this tea anytime of the day or night.

How many cups should I drink per day? I would listen to your body, but 1-4 servings per day is average depending on your health goals.

Can I use fresh turmeric root? Yes, you can grate a 1 in. piece of fresh turmeric root into the recipe. You may then want to strain it with a fine mesh strainer to remove any pieces or remaining pulp.

Do I drink this hot or cold? You may drink it either hot or cold – it really is just personal preference.

Can I make a large batch and store in the fridge? Absolutely. I’ve made up to half a gallon and kept in the fridge, drink within a week. I also enjoy it cold too, but it can also be reheated in a small saucepan.

Can kids drink this tea? Small amounts are fine. Keep in mind that turmeric is a spice. They love the taste and they will love to help you make it, but check with your pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns before drinking this.
